Can 'The Office' go on without Steve Carell?
Ensemble though it may be, one assumes that with no Michael, another character might step up and play a more central role. Who might that be?
Pam and Jim The Pam/Jim unit has always been one of the most central scrubs seasons dvd "Office" storylines. And with the two married and with child, there's plenty of work/life balance issues that could provide fodder for comedy. Plus, having served as co-manager, I can see Jim taking over fully as the head of Dunder Mifflin's Scranton branch, a move that would send Dwight Schrute into seizures.scrubs dvd box set
Dwight Schrute: Speaking of that freaky beet farmer, could he be the next Michael? As funny as he often is, I'm going to say no. Dwight is crucial to "The Office," but he's too oddball to be the leading man. He needs someone to suck up to, which is why I think option No. 3 might be more on-target.scrubs dvd set
Gabe Lewis: The lackey to Sabre CEO Jo Bennett (Kathy Bates), he and Michael both reek of desperation and a need to be beloved by their colleagues. Zach Woods, the very funny actor who plays Gabe, also recently signed on to "The Office" as a series regular, which suggests that maybe he's a crucial part of that vague NBC plan. scrubs box set
Which "Office" character would you like to see gain some more screen time as a result of Carell's departure? And do you think the show, which admittedly wasn't consistently hilarious during season six, can move on successfully without a weekly dose of "That's what she said"? www.dvdorderonline.com

Iran sets conditions for nuclear talks
President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said Monday that stalled talks could continue only if the United States, Russia, China and Western Europe included other countries in the discussions, clarified their stance on Israel's undeclared nuclear weapons arsenal, submitted to the rules of the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty and specified whether the talks would be friendly or hostile. He said that as punishment for new sanctions, Iran would not be prepared to resume talks until late summer. one tree hill 1-7 dvd box set

President Obama urges G-20 nations to spend; they pledge to halve deficits
In a news conference at the meeting's conclusion, Obama said that the world's largest economic powers had agreed on the need for "continued growth in the short term and fiscal sustainability in the medium term."
"A number of our European partners are making difficult decisions," Obama said. "But we must recognize that our fiscal health tomorrow will rest in no small measure on our ability to create jobs and growth today."
The group's closing statement included the specific deficit-reduction target, but it was couched in caveats -- that deficit reduction needed to be "calibrated" to avoid harming growth, paced differently in each country and paired with other reforms to strengthen the economy. the simpsons dvd box set
Obama and European leaders, in particular, came to the meeting with sharply different views of the strength of the global economic recovery, with the U.S. president more pessimistic. The declaration, in the works for weeks, gave each side what it wanted, although the specific deadlines went further than the Obama administration had preferred before the meeting. The administration accepted the deadlines in order to avoid standing against Harper and such important economic powers as Germany. In his closing remarks, Obama stressed that "every country will chart its own unique course, but make no mistake -- we're moving in the same direction."
The International Monetary Fund's managing director, Dominique Strauss-Kahn, called the deficit target an "oversimplification" of the problem; he said it was more important for individual countries to craft the right economic policies to sustain growth, not blindly cut for the sake of meeting a goal. the simpsons seasons 1-21 box set
Along with pledging to cut their annual budget deficits by 2013, the developed countries committed to stabilizing their overall debt by 2016. Obama recently set similar goals for the United States. the simpsons dvd set
Despite the seeming division between the United States' deficit-reduction target and the slower approach favored by Canada and Germany, Obama said there was "violent agreement" within the group about the need to find proper balance -- with some highly indebted countries such as Greece needing to cut immediately and others supporting the recovery with higher spending.
Overall, the group's final statement reflects its consensus theory for how the world economy needs to change, with the heavily indebted Western nations steadily taming government deficits, and surplus-rich nations "rebalancing" to boost local spending and demand. the simpsons seasons 1-21 dvd
Strong emerging markets such as China, the document said, need to guard against a slowdown by encouraging their governments and people to spend more, investing more on infrastructure, establishing better social safety nets to give families more income, and allowing exchange rates to fluctuate more freely -- a quiet reference to China's managed currency policies. Good news, everyone: 'Futurama' is back!
"I feel like with 'nerd culture,' [it sounds like] the nerds have triumphed," he said. 'Geek' has a negative connotation. I'd rather be called a nerd. I love being called a nerd." the simpsons seasons dvd box set
Back in 2003, this particular nerd couldn't believe it was all over for "Futurama." the simpsons 1-21 dvd box set
"When we were canceled by Fox, we thought that was it," Cohen recalled. "We really didn't have any expectations at the time. It was really emotional because we spent four years locked in a dark room working on the show. I went on with my life and wrote a couple of pilots." the simpsons dvd set
As the years went by, the network Adult Swim (a Time Warner property, along with CNN) started airing reruns of "Futurama" along with "Family Guy."
"Family Guy's" ratings and DVD sales convinced Fox to give it a second chance, and the rest is history. "Futurama's" ratings were similarly high, and once "Family Guy" started putting feature-length episodes on DVD, a light bulb went off in Cohen's head. the simpsons seasons dvd " 'Family Guy' blazed the trail with direct-to-DVD movies and got back on the air," he said. "We called Fox and told them every six months that, hey, 'Futurama' is even more fitting for direct-to-DVD." the simpsons seasons box set
Finally, in 2007, fans had their "Futurama series dvd" back, in not one, but four direct-to-DVD movies. As a result of those sales, Comedy Central is starting a new season of the show on Thursday night.
The first order of business: wrapping up what happened at the end of the last movie, when Fry, Leela, Bender and the rest of the crew were sucked into a wormhole. the simpsons box set
"Our first episode is 'Rebirth,' which is metaphorical but a surprisingly literal term -- our crew members are going to suffer some serious physical harm," Cohen explained. "Not for the squeamish, necessarily, but we will see the rebirth process as science has it in the year 3000." the simpsons dvd
The most exciting new thing about this season of "Futurama," according to Cohen, is that it's, well, new. "I want to reassure our fans that this will be the real classic 'Futurama' back to its original form. They supported us, and we want to repay them." the simpsons seasons 1-21 dvd collection
For fans who are probably wondering what happened between Fry and Leela, last seen kissing before that climactic trip, Cohen said their questions will be answered, all in good time: "We're going to be dealing with the surprising sci-fi consequences of that relationship."
Former Vice President Al Gore will also provide his voice, once again, just in time for the holidays. the simpsons seasons collection
"The holiday special's going to focus on the future versions of Christmas, Kwanzaa and 'Robanukah,' which Bender made up to get off of work. Gore will make his record-breaking fourth guest appearance," Cohen said. "We will have the classic pairing of Gore and Coolio, making his third appearance, playing Kwanzaa-bot."
"Futurama dvd set " also has a big milestone to celebrate, thanks to that Comedy Central pickup: "We will have our 100th episode with Mark Mothersbaugh and Devo. Leela leads the mutant people who live under the sewers in an uprising against the surface people."
iReporters love Futurama
So what kind of brain power does it take to write a show with so many jokes revolving around nerdy topics? the simpsons series 1-21 dvd box set
"My master's degree [in physics and theoretical computer science] puts me in the middle of the pack -- we have had three science PhDs in our writers room, so no one is impressed with my master's degree," Cohen joked.
"We do sneak in a high-level math or physics equation, and we know few people get them, but they are hidden in the background, and we'll reward a few viewers and hopefully make them lifelong ' Futurama collection ' fans."
One example of such nerdy humor will actually come to the forefront in the near future. the simpsons seasons dvd set
"Our tenth episode of the new season is written by Dr. Ken Keeler, and it involves the characters switching minds, and it becomes very complicated due to the nature of this to work our way back to the original body, and requires solving a mathematical problem," Cohen explained. "Ken actually proved a theorem critical to resolving the episode. We're going to present a 'Futurama dvd ' theorem."
Cracking jokes and breaking new scientific ground at the same time? Fans of "Futurama," nerdy or otherwise, wouldn't want it any other way. the simpsons seasons 1-21 dvd box set

Suspected Kurdish rebels kill 4 in Istanbul
Gov. Huseyin Avni Mutlu said two of the wounded were in critical condition following the early morning attack. The state-run Anatolia agency said the dead included the 17-year-old daughter of an officer.scrubs 1-9 dvd box set
Kurdish rebels have repeatedly staged bomb attacks in Istanbul in the past but the last major bomb attack in the city was in 2007, when 17 people were killed.
Kurdish rebels fighting for autonomy in the country's Kurdish-dominated southeast have dramatically stepped up their attacks on Turkish targets this month and had threatened to expand their war to cities in the west of the country.scrubs dvd box set
The roadside bomb went off on a usually quiet side road as the bus passed shortly after leaving a military housing complex, NTV television said.
CNN-Turk television said there was no immediate claim of responsibility but that Kurdish rebels are believed to be behind the attack. The rebel group rarely claims credit for its attacks.scrubs dvd set
Turkish troops killed seven Kurdish rebels in the country's north and southeast in two separate clashes overnight, the Anatolia agency said. The rebels have killed at least 13 soldiers in the region since Friday.scrubs seasons 1-9 dvd box set
Kurdish rebels dramatically stepped up their attacks on June 1, accusing Turkey of not establishing dialogue with them or imprisoned Kurdish rebel chief Abdullah Ocalan and refusing to declare an unconditional amnesty that would include top rebel leaders, or allow Kurdish language education in schools.
Turkey firmly rules out dialogue with the rebel group, which is considered a terrorist organization by the United States and the European Union, but is granting more cultural and political rights to Kurds in the hope of reducing support for rebels in the poor southeast.scrubs 1-9 dvd

The military said on Tuesday that two Kurdish rebels were killed in an overnight clash in the northern province of Gumushane — far away from the traditional theater of fighting in the country's southeast. Five other rebels were killed late Monday when they attacked a military unit in the southeastern province of Diyarbakir, the military said. One soldier was killed and five other people, including three civilians, were wounded in that attack, it added.scrubs seasons 1-9 The rebels belonging to the Kurdistan Workers' Party, or PKK, have used northern Iraq as a springboard to stage hit-and-run attacks on Turkish targets in their decades-long campaign for autonomy in Turkey's Kurdish-dominated southeast. 'True Blood' recap, 'Beautifully broken': Sookie ain't that blond
When we left off, Bill is surrounded by a pack of werewolves, and he warns them that he's fed. Oh, has he feed. We open up to the ghastly sight of Bill spitting out a werewolf ear, the man to which it had most recently been attached lies moaning at his feet. Other Weres are lying motionless on the ground, along with various and sundry limbs, bone and tissue. There's one wolf still standing when up rolls the Russell Edgington, the King of Mississippi (yes, each state's ruling vamp is considered royalty). He's dressed for a day, er, night at the hunt, and reprimands Cooter, the alpha werewolf, for treating his "guest" Bill so poorly. When Russell hears that the werewolves who abducted Bill drank his blood, Russell shoots Cooter's surviving one-eared pal, apparently as an object lesson. Russell and Bill arrive at Russell's mansion, and we meet Talbot, Russell's consort and apparently the Martha Stewart of the nosferati. They refuse to tell Bill why they've brought him here, although it soon becomes clear that Russell is planning a power grab by "marrying" the Queen of Louisiana, Sophie-Anne Leclerq. Over carbonated, cruelty-free blood, Russell offers to make Bill sheriff of Mississippi's Area Two. We also learn that Russell is under the impression that Bill returned to Bon Temps to perform some task for Sophie-Anne, though Bill denies this. But that, we see a mystery man has let himself into Bill's house, and while pawing through his things, finds a genealogical chart for the Stackhouses, articles about Sookie, pictures of her when she was a kid. Hmmmm.
Oh, and to no one's surprise except Bill's, Lorena shows up at Russell's house. Bill make his displeasure known by setting her on fire. NCIS dvd box set
Lafayette busts into the bathroom to stop Tara from overdosing on pills and makes her throw up. He looks like he's had some experience with this. He takes Lafayette to see his mother, Ruby Jane Reynolds (the always excellent Alfre Woodard), who's in a rest home/sanitarium -- that's why Lafayette is such as a busy beaver, what with being a short-order cook, Internet porn entrepreneur, V dealer, etc. He hasn't visited his mother in six months, but he wanted Tara to see that darkness runs deep in their family, and they've got to work hard not to succumb to it. (The fine-looking orderly Jesus will surely pop up again, right?)
Sookie and Jessica, who've discovered that Bill has been kidnapped by someone with connections to "Operation Werewolf," go to Fangtasia to share the news with Eric. She reminds him of the work she did for him in Dallas and looks up at him with big wet eyes, and it appears to work. It appears Godric's death has changed Eric at some deeper level. He's always lusted after Sookie, but now he appears to want to protect her. Getting back to "Operation Werewolf," Eric flashes back to Augsburg, Germany 1945. Eric and Godric are hiding in the rafters of a home when an American soldier bursts in and comes upon a woman huddled in the corner. When he gently approaches her, she turns into a werewolf and begins to feast on him. Eric and Godric, revealed to be wearing Nazi officer uniforms, swoop in to stop her. She shows off three marks on the side of her neck and tells them they're on the same side. "No, we're not," Eric says, and goes in for the kill. NCIS dvd set
Back in the present day, Pam is the best big vampire sister ever. Jessica, mindful of the dead trucker stinking up Bill's house, asks her how she manages to keep from drinking her victims dry. Pam says, "I think about crying children with soggy diapers. And maggots." Hoyt is waiting for Jessica at Bill's house with a six-pack of B positive. Awww. He tells her he forgives her for attacking his mother, but she's harder on herself. "I do bad things by accident," she says. It's in my nature." Hoyt says he's a mama's boy, but hey, they can fight their natures together. Too late, Jessica says, and goes inside, looking the door behind her. Yup, dead trucker's still there.NCIS Seasons dvd box set
Comic relief: Sookie and Jason are cleaning the house together when Sookie relates what she's learned about the supernatural world. "Werewolves?" Jason says, wonderingly. "Bigfoot, is he real too? .... Santa?!?"
So "True Blood box set" detractors keep saying that Sookie is too dumb to live, mainly because she has this ability to read people's minds but doesn't exercise it when she REALLY needs to, or rather, she uses it only when the plot really needs her to. I can understand the criticism, particularly when Jason must direct Sookie not to read his mind when he alludes to what he and Andy went through at the tail end of Hurricane Maryann. I would think everyone who knows of Sookie's ability -- Lafayette, Tara, Sam -- would do this with a little more regularity. Still, it does come in handy when Sookie's heading into work and catches a snatch of a thought about someone grabbing Sookie. Terry interrupts the would-be kidnapping, and they find evidence of a Were in the woods. He also gives her a gun and asks her if she knows how to use it. "I ain't that blond," she says, and tucks it in her waistband. NCIS dvd
Later, Eric turns up at Sookie's house and fills her in on "Operation Werewolf." Turns out he and Godric weren't really SS; they were hunting Nazi werewolves -- organized, well funded, highly trained and fueled by vampire blood. Eric senses something and tells her to invite him in. She does, just as another werewolf turns up. The Were and Eric are about to do battle, when Sookie pulls out the gun, aims and shoots. That was positively brunette! Is stupid Sookie gone for good? NCIS box set
So far, season three has mostly tracked with Charlaine Harris' third Southern Vampire novel, "Club Dead," with the exception of the characters "True Blood" creator Alan Ball has added or expanded. Sam's subplot is completely new. Sam, who so slyly tracked down his birth parents to Podunk, Arkansas, gets busted by his soon-to-be-revealed younger brother Tommy, who comes upon Sam snoozing in his car outside the Mickens home. A gun trained on Sam, Tommy marches him to the house, where Sam meets his parents. The story is that his mother was 16 when she got pregnant, and his father was in prison, so she turned over Sam to the Merlottes, who had a big house and could give him a good life. Turns out the mother is the shifter in the family. Later, Sam and Tommy go for "a run." They both know what that means. Sam doffs his clothes and turns into happy dog Dean (I don't know my dogs, what kind is he?). Tommy shakes his head ruefully, and shifts into a ... well, a much meaner looking dog. Bulldog? NCIS Seasons box set
The discovery of Miss Jeannette's body with her heart ripped from its chest should have resulted in a splash of press, if not Anderson Cooper helicoptering in for la live shot, but apparently not. However, the greater Shreveport-area press corps is all present and accounted for as Andy and Sheriff Dearborn detail Eggs' murderous rampage, and everyone appears to consider Andy a hero for killing Eggs. Jason appears to be a little jealous. But Andy lets Jason come along for the ride when they head out to Hotshot (apparently even more off-the-beaten-track than Bon Temps) to bust a meth lab. Though Andy tells Jason to stay in the car, Jason spots a girl and, as Jason is wont to do, pursues her, and ends up collaring one of the suspects with an expert tackle. We briefly meet Hotshot resident Calvin Norris. NCIS Seasons dvd The mystery man from Bill's house turns up at Merlotte's. He's another vampire, and he meets a forlorn-looking Tara at the bar. Guzzling Wild Turkey, Tara goes outside to where Eggs was killed. Two drunk rednecks start talking about Eggs, and one of them pees on the spot he was killed. Tara slugs him, and before they can do much of anything, the mystery man (soon to be revealed as Franklin Mott, for those of you who haven't read the books) holds one of the rednecks while Tara gets off a few more shots. Franklin appears to be enjoying this immensely. (Meanwhile, Jessica returns to Bill's house with a chainsaw only to find the dead trucker is gone. Franklin's doing?)
I'll leave you with this bit of genius courtesy of Terry Bellefleur, who's trying to convince girlfriend Arlene (who's pregnant with his child, though he doesn't know it yet) that he'll be good around her children: "Number one, I'm a nurturer. I found a baby armadilla by the side of the road and I nursed it and now it sleeps under my bed. His name is Felix. Number two, I have a diploma from anger management, where I learned talking about your feelings is the manly thing to do."NCIS Seasons 1-7 dvd box set
